Back in January, we told you about Port Credit’s hidden coffee shop, Destination Cafe. Not only is it a great, welcoming spot but it’s also a non-profit that gives the proceeds back to the community. Well, the store recently underwent some renovations and looks far better than before!
Truth be told, Destination Cafe wasn’t much to look at; it wasn’t bad by any means, but it was rather unassuming – particularly during the renovations. With its fresh lick of paint however, it’s much more eye-catching on the outside, and a lot more appealing on the inside. What hasn’t changed however, is the attitude of Rob the roastmaster and the mantra of the shop, which has always been about crafting great coffee and helping others:
“We are a social purpose enterprise, employing individuals with barriers to employment. Our cafe & micro-roaster serves fair trade organic coffee and beans, as well as an array of teas and baked goods.”
If you’re someone who is conscientious about the coffee you drink, or the products you consume in general, then you’ll love The Social Bean. As alluded to, Rob the roast-master is just that: a master. The guy couldn’t be friendlier and he loves his coffee. Not only does he roast on site, but he’s more than happy to talk to you about the product he uses, and recommend the blend that will suit you best.
The Social Bean is a fantastic coffee shop for those seeking an alternative to Tim Horton’s and Starbucks. Not only that but now it looks the part as well; with its new name, new awning, cozy seating area, and hell, it even has a plant! The Social Bean is one of our favourite independent coffee shops, and you should head to 211-A Lakeshore Road East to see what it’s all about.
