Christmas is a crazy time of year; the cooking, cleaning, and entertaining seems endless, and for most, it seems the spending never stops. Well, don’t worry if you’ve forgotten your wallet at home folks, because the Christmas in the Village Festival (November 25th-26th) is offering up tons of exciting activities for all ages, live entertainment, and more, all for the cost of $0 this holiday season!
Looking for a tasty treat? Stop by the maple taffy station for free, mouth-watering maple taffy made for you on snow right in the Streetsville Village Square. Following this chilly theme, try your hand at the games on Main St., but remember those mittens – the games are made of ice! Lastly, don’t miss out on Saturday’s ice carving demonstration that is sure to put a frosty twist on Streetsville’s logo up on the main stage.
If you’re looking to take some Instagram-worthy photos, Christmas in the Village is the place to do it. Marquee letters will be set up in the Village Square, giving the hospitality lounge a warm glow with a festive Christmas message. On Sunday, old and young alike will enjoy Santa’s sleigh of live reindeer who we hear have perfected their poses for those upcoming Christmas cards. Last but definitely not least, take a selfie with the big man himself; old St. Nick will be around to listen to your little ones’ long wish lists on Saturday from 5:00-9:00pm, and Sunday from 12:00-4:00pm!
Take a step back in time as horse and carriage rides provide you and your family a grand tour of the historic ‘Village in the City’. Looking for a more current form of transportation? The kids will love the Polar Express train for a whimsical journey to the other end of the festival. In fact, there are lots of things for the kids to do at this largely free event! Free children’s crafts will be available for the whole duration of the festival; ornament making, crafting elf hats, building your own snowmen, and paper wreath-making are just a few of the activities you can expect in the Children’s Craft Tent. Children’s activities include a jumbo colouring board that is sure to capture your little elves’ imaginations, Saturday’s reindeer games at Reindeer Ridge, princess photos with everyone’s favourite winter princesses, and much more! The Streetsville BIA will also be sponsoring a free skate at Vic Johnston on Sunday (11:00am-12:20pm), so remember to sharpen those blades!
If you do happen to remember your wallet, a market full of unique, hand-crafted vendors will be lining Queen St. S. from Thomas St. to Tannery St. – and don’t forget about Streetsville’s local shops! They’re chock-full of festive gifts that are just waiting to appear under your tree. Additionally, don’t forget to relax, have fun, and grab a holiday brew from the Hospitality Lounge!
