Over 520 Ontario turkeys donated to Mississauga food banks
Charles Sousa, MPP for Mississauga South, and community volunteers today delivered a tractor trailer load of turkeys to The Mississauga Food Bank. The turkeys, all Ontario-raised, will be distributed to families in need through The Mississauga Food Bank and The Compass Food Bank in south Mississauga during the holiday season.
This is the 9th annual Charles Sousa Holiday Turkey Drive, which this year raised more than $18,235, enough to buy over 520 turkeys, as part of the community’s ‘Twas the Bite Before Christmas holiday fundraising campaign.
Since 2009, our annual Holiday Turkey Drive has donated over 5,100 turkeys to the community’s ‘Twas the Bite Before Christmas holiday fundraising campaign, representing over $170,000 worth of community donations in total.
“I’m very grateful for the generosity of our community and sponsors in support of another successful Holiday Turkey Drive. Thank you also to the Port Credit BIA and ‘Twas the Bite Before Christmas for their ongoing effort to inspire this annual donation to the Mississauga Food Bank that helps ensure many more families and children enjoy a festive season.” – MPP Charles Sousa, Mississauga South
“We are appreciative of MPP Sousa and all the donors who contributed to this turkey drive. This valuable source of protein ensures families in Mississauga are fed at the holidays and into the new year.” – Chris Hatch, Executive Director, The Mississauga Food Bank
“Charles Sousa’s turkey drive has brought our community together for 9 years to support those in need during the holidays. It’s a privilege to be a part of such a generous and caring community. Thanks to all who participated this year.” – Ellen Timms, General Manager, Port Credit BIA
