Festival season continues throughout Mississauga and nowhere is more active than Celebration Square in the heart of the city. Every week the area is home to a new event or jamboree, and September 2nd marks the return of the beloved SoundBites festival!
SoundBites 2017 comes to Celebration Square on September 2nd for the fourth year in a row! But what is the SoundBites festival you ask? Well, do you like food? Do you like music? Do you like fireworks? Fun? Then you’d better keep reading!
Starting at 5 PM on Saturday, the SoundBites festival is a celebration of homegrown food and music. From the opening of the show until 7 PM, local artists will take to the stage, including III Scarlett, Jammer’s Waffle House, and Matt Zaddy. Then, at 7:15 PM, Anjulie graces us with her presence and the show really kicks off. Here’s an excerpt from the event that introduces the music:
Celebrating 150 years of Ontario talent, the ONtour concert series will be live onstage at SoundBites. This undeniable lineup of multi-award winning artists includes: Grammy-winning rock and roll superstar Tom Cochrane, best known for his mega-hits “Life is a Highway” and “No Regrets”; emerging pop sensation Francesco Yates, who has received the attention of Pharrell Williams and collaborated with Robin Schulz; and Anjulie, a singer-songwriter known for her collaborations with Diplo, Kelly Clarkson, and Nicki Minaj. This is one explosive concert you won’t want to miss.
The music will play into the wee hours of the night (well, 11 PM), and keep the mood upbeat while you socialise and chow down on some amazing grub.
Which means it’s time to talk about the food. While the music is a huge part of the festival, the food is probably the main attraction, and there’s plenty to go around. The festival will feature over 20 food trucks with cuisines from around the globe, yet all ingredients are farmed locally!
The fine folks over at SoundBites have been kind enough to provide a list of the food trucks coming to the show, so take a deep breath and try not to salivate:
- Alijandro’s Kitchen
- Apple Fritter Factory
- Arepa Republic
- Bake Three Fifty
- Born 2 Eat
- Crazy Burrito
- Delight Bite Inc.
- Dimkin Crepes
- Dirty South BBQ & The Salted Pig
- El Trompo Movil
- Fidel Gastro’s
- Fully Loaded TO
- Mustache Burger
- Pappas Greek Food Truck
- Smokes Poutinerie
- Sushitto on the Road
- The Food Dudes
- Luchador Gourmet Streatery
- Top Dog
- Twistee Dairy
As you can tell, there’s a ton of diversity in food there; truly something for everyone. Whether it’s a sushi burrito or a good old fashioned burger you’re after, you’ll find it at the SoundBites truck rally. We recommend you step out of your comfort zone though and try something completely foreign to you!
SoundBites is a festival about food and music, layered against the great Canadian backdrop. Canada excels in its diversity, and SoundBites is a great way to celebrate that multiplicity of culture and bring everyone together under the banner of good food and music! So come on out to Celebration Square on Saturday, September 2nd at 5 PM, and make sure to come with an empty stomach!
