Benares Historic House is always providing the city with fantastic exhibits, events, and things to do, beyond simply being an incredible historical site to begin with. Every year, the organisers do a fantastic job of starting new events, and 2018 has been no different.

That’s why we’re so excited to tell you about the next big exhibition: Beyond Sit & Stay. This new addition to the house is a celebration of service dogs, and the deep bond that exists between dog and handler. The following is the extensive description of the event:

This exhibition takes the point of view that the working relationship between a service dog and its handler is built on deep personal connections. A partnership that matches the right dog for the job with the right person for the job, and that provides very real and substantial support networks in our community.

A service dog is not a piece of equipment moulded once and then passed from person to person to perform a task. Service dogs and their handlers always work as partners. Their personalities, skills and goals must be matched through careful evaluations and training. Their relationship is always a work in progress, so that both their bond of trust and level of skill will be completely reliable when they come under pressure on the job.

This is real work for both members of the team. There are job performance standards that each one must be capable of fulfilling. The more sophisticated the job, such as policing or search and rescue, the more likely there are formal certification tests that have to be passed – as partners.

Beyond Sit & Stay will be available 7 days a week, from noon to 4pm. Don’t worry if you can’t make it soon though, this event will run from September 26th until November 22nd!,

Beyond Sit & Stay is an event sponsored by Museums of Mississauga and it’s well worth a visit. If you’re a dog lover, or just a regular at Benares House, you definitely need to come sometime between September 26th and November 22nd and embrace one of the most heart-warming exhibits the House has ever put on.
