When you think of food at the mall, you probably think of the food court and places like Burger King, KFC, or Bourbon Street. However there’s a lot more to the food scene at Square One than just fast food, a whole lot more.

Should you find yourself near Entrance 8 on the second level of Square One, you should discover Reds Wine Tavern. The restaurant is tucked away inside the mall but is instantly noticeable for its big glass windows showcasing wine stacked to the ceiling. Walking inside you’ll find a casual restaurant with low-lighting, exposed ceilings, simple wooden tables and brown leather chairs, and some TV’s spread out. It’s casual but classy.

And that’s what Reds is all about; it’s fine dining masquerading as an upscale sports bar. Reds isn’t a sports bar by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s interior design is reminiscent of a Jack Astor’s, however the food is for a more refined palette. It’s a beautiful space that makes a great spot for date night, a quiet meal with friends, or a business meeting.

Reds doesn’t have a gigantic menu, but it does have one that has been curated and refined to represent the very best of the chefs. It’s a diverse menu with a little something for everyone, and we’re going to break it down by section.

The first section of which is “Small Plates”, and it includes Beetroot Hummus, Truffle Fries, Bangkok Nachos, Sweet Potato Fries, Angus Beef Sliders, Calamari Fritti, Ahi Tuna Tostadas, Chicken Wings, Ravioli & Garlic Shrimp, and Nova Scotia Lobster Guacamole. These small plates or appetizers range from $9.75 to $19.95.

Next, we’re going to combine two sections together, and those are salads and soups. The salads include The Chicken Cobb, Kale, Chicken, & Cashew, 3 Beet & Goat Cheese, and old-fashioned Caesar. The salads are actually quite expensive, with the Caesar being the cheapest at $14.95. The homemade soups, meanwhile, are Wild Mushroom Soup, and Tomato Fennel Soup, and both of those cost $11 for a bowl.

Burgers and sandwiches is the next section, and it comprises of Reds Burger (lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickle, fresh baked potato bun), Cheeseburger (two year aged Canadian cheddar, lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickle, fresh baked potato bun), Falafel & Beet Burger (Mediterranean chickpea patty, onion, cucumber, tomato, feta, cashew cream, fresh baked potato bun), Brixton Burger (caramelized onions, cremini mushrooms, Swiss cheese, onion rings, horseradish aioli, fre

sh baked potato bun), and Lobster Grilled Cheese (mascarpone, avocado, house baked sourdough bread). The average burger price hovers around $17.

Our next section is a small one that consists of curries and bowls; Salmon Bibimbap (jasmine rice, carrots, red onion, cucumber,
avocado, watermelon radish, onion chips, nori, gochujang, kabayaki, sesame seeds, green onion, shallot dressing), Masala Butter Chicken Bowl, and Harvest Bowl (basmati rice, avocado, cauliflower, sweet potato, chickpeas, raita, greens, seed & nut blend, chia seed dressing).

And that brings us to the entrees. As always, the entrees are the most important part of the menu, and Reds offers some delicious dishes; Reds Flash Roasted ChickenBBQ Pork Ribs, Chicken & Ribs, Chicken Carbonara, Cauliflower Steak, Ravioli & Garlic Shrimp, and Seared Salmon Romesco.

And then there’s a separate section dedicated entirely to steaks, and this is something Reds specialises in. It offers Chipotle Sirloin, Peppercorn Sirloin, Filet, Steak & Shrimp, and Mushroom New York. Most of the steaks cost somewhere in the realm of $32, while the entrees are in the $20 range.

And that’s the breakdown of the menu at Reds Wine Tavern. It’s an exquisite array of foods but we don’t expect you to take our word for it. And that’s why were including some reviews below. Reds holds a rating of 4 out of 5 on Google, based on 1201 reviews. Here are a few of the most recent:

Visited here when it opened in 2018 summer for brunch. We sat at the patio which was nice and okay. Nothing grandiose or special about the patio specifically. I give it 5 stars because the food was very well presented and tasted delicious! I’ll definitely go there again.

Great Experience. The place offers quiet and beautiful ambience that’s perfect for a date or meeting someone special. The service is excellent, food is amazing. The prices are decent enough to warrant a monthly visit.

From what I’ve eaten here they are very consistent and the pastries are delicious. I will definitely come again. The only downside was watching the Raptors lose to the Magic during Game 1 of the playoffs and it dampened my evening. Though the service was great.

And those reviews reflect our visit to Reds Wine Tavern; excellent food, excellent service, and a great setting rounded out a highly enjoyable experience.

Of course, we only talked about the dinner menu, but Reds also offers a lunch menu, kids food, and one of the more impressive and extensive wine menus in the entire city; Reds is a wine-lovers dream. It’s a great restaurant that bucks the idea of mall food being fast and forgettable. If you’re in Square One then we highly recommend you try Reds, if you aren’t in the mall, then it’s high time you make a trip there anyway.
