Hollywood blockbusters being filmed in Mississauga is nothing new, in fact it happens quite often. From Kick-Ass to Harold & Kumar, Billy Madison to A Simple Favour, movies are filmed in the GTA every single year.

Not as often however, as movies filmed here and based on actual events that happened here. Well such was the case with the new Mickey Rourke movie, Tiger, which released just last month!

Tiger is a movie based on real-life Mississauga boxer Pardeep Singh Nagra, who faced great racial adversity when attempting to become a professional. Check out the official synopsis and trailer below:

“Tiger┬áis inspired by the true story of Pardeep Singh Nagra, a practicing Sikh man who was banned from the sport of boxing due to his religious beliefs. Pardeep fights back with the support of his coach and mentor (Mickey Rourke) and a community lawyer (Janel Parrish). Obstacles faced include racial profiling by public officials, overtly racist threats, jealous rival boxers and pressure to change from loved ones. It is within the course of these challenges, and at his weakest moment, that he discovers love (Janel Parrish). Consequently, his legacy will be forever tied to his two biggest battles; one in the courtroom, the other in the ring.”

Tiger stars Mickey Rourke as coach Frank Donovan, and Prem Singh as Pardeep Nagra, as well as Janel Parrish, Michael Pugliese, and more. It’s a tense drama movie that seems perfectly fitting for the time period in which we live.

So if you’ve already seen Creed II and are in need of some more boxing action, check out Tiger and root for the hometown hero, Pardeep Nagra! You can see the movie at Cineplex Cinemas Courtney Park right now!
