As of last month, marijuana-laced edibles are now legal in Canada. A year following the legalisation of marijuana in the country, eating food infused with marijuana is also now legal. That said, there’s nowhere to currently buy edibles in Mississauga, including the Ontario Cannabis Store.
However that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything to be excited about. Edibles are coming and cannabis is becoming more widely accepted. All it takes is a few major moves by noteworthy brands to really bring weed into the mainstream, and that’s why we’re here today. Molson Coors recently announced a deal that will soon bring cannabis-infused beer to our shelves.
“Canada is breaking new ground in the cannabis sector and, as one of the country’s leading beverage companies, Molson Coors Canada has a unique opportunity to participate in this exciting and rapidly expanding consumer segment,” said Frederic Landtmeters, president and CEO of Molson Coors Canada.
Make no mistake about it, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of beer endorsing marijuana and jumping on the train is a massive deal and a real game-changer. Molson Coors will be teaming with HEXO to make the beer a reality, and the project is being called Truss. There’s no word on exactlty when we can expect the beer to his store shelves here, but the brand is looking to have some in the U.S sometime in 2020, so we can expect something similar here.
This is just the first step in what is sure to be a long journey into the realms of edible (and drinkable) cannabis beers. Although it’s worth mentioning that the product won’t be able to be called beer, because there will be no actual alcohol in it. So the marketing team at Molson Coors will have their hands full trying to come up with a catchy name that sticks.
