It’s only January and winter is in full swing, but that doesn’t mean the fun can’t start a little earlier than usual. We often don’t get festivals or events in the city until closer to summertime, but this year we’re kicking off the festival season earlier with something new and very exciting!

The biggest North American Mac and Cheese Festival is coming to Mississauga in February, and it’s happening across Valentine’s Day weekend, no less. Normally this huge food festival takes place in Toronto each year, but in 2020 it’s happening at 1352 Lakeshore Road East, which is the Small Arms Inspection Building that often hosts incredible art installations.

The Mac and Cheese Festival is North America’s largest festival of its kind, celebrating everything mac and cheese. Food entrepreneurs compete to make over-the-top mac and cheese creations that guests can purchase. Since its inception in 2015 in Toronto, the festival has attracted over 500,000 visitors and has expanded nationally. Recently featured on The Food Network, the festival and its food imagineers continue to push the boundaries of creativity to deliver delicious food experiences.

Beginning on February 14th at 5 pm, the Mac and Cheese festival will run through the 15th and end at 8 PM on the 16th. There will be 15 vendors at the festival, including Bacon Nations, The Dirty Bird, The Pie Guys, Saltlick Smokehouse, and Rick’s Good Eats. Each vendor will often something completely different, from rainbow mac and cheese, to dishes featuring chicken, beef, lobster, and even waffle cones.

All that eating might make you thirsty though, but don’t worry because there is a full stocked bar scene that includes Sleeping Giant Brewery, Wellington Brewery, Thornbury Village, Steamwhistle, and many more. There you will be able to get some delicious craft beers to quench your thirst, and learn about some of the local breweries that are changing up the beer scene in Canada.

It isn’t all about the food and drink though, because no festival would be complete without live music and some games to play. Music will come in the form of The Disco Rebels, Jake Feeney, Prescilla Uno, and more, while the games consist of giant board games, Nintendo stations, and competitions between you, your friends, or your significant other to win prizes.

The Mac and Cheese Festival is happening on Valentine’s Day at 1352 Lakeshore Road East, and it’s set to be one of the best events of the year! We can’t wait for the event and want to ensure it returns next year, so let’s all hit-up the festival and gorge on delicious food and beer. See you there!
