The Sahdra Family has been providing Port Credit with authentic Indian cuisine since 1984. The family’s spirit and hospitality, as well as the master chefs that have been cooking up incredible foods for decades, is the key to the restaurants success and longevity!

Indian Cuisine By The Lake is located right in the middle of Port Credit, on the same stretch of street as Scoops, Spice Lounge, and Havana Castle Cigars. The restaurant sports an intimate patio and has been supplying Port Credit with incredible spice and taste for over 20 years!

Once you walk inside, you’ll be greeted by warm lights and a casual style restaurant. Maroon coloured walls, leather seats, and simple wooden tables belay a feeling of informality and cosiness. It’s a wonderful place to go for an evening meal, whether that’s for a quiet date, or a lively family dinner. The service here is always fantastic and prompt, which is all one can ask for.

We’ve mentioned the incredible chef’s at Indian Cuisine By The Lake, whom you can watch work their magic thanks to the open-concept kitchen! You cannot overstate the confidence it takes for a restaurant to have an open plan kitchen; while most restaurant kitchens are rowdy and, oftentimes, angry places that break the odd health violation rule, none of that is possible with an open-concept kitchen. That means the owners demand a high level of professionalism at all times from their staff, and very few places can do so adequately. So kudos to Indian Cuisine By The Lake for doing so.

So what exactly are these amazing chef’s cooking up in the kitchen? Well, the menu is split into many different categories, including Hot and Cold Appetisers, Vegetarian, Rich Dishes, Desserts, Wraps, and Vegan.

Starting with the appetisers, you’ll find traditional Indian options like Samosa’s, Paneer Pakora, Mulligatawney Soup, Shahi Poutine, Onion Bhaji, Veggie Pakora, and a Veggie Platter, among many others. The average price of an appetiser is $10, so you can start your dining experience right for a low fee.

Some of these options are Peas Pulao, Naan, Garlic Naan, Vegetable Biriyani, Roti, Basmati Rice, Kulcha, Raita, and Lamb Keema Naan. The rice is always cooked to sticky perfection, and the bread is never crusty!

One thing that the restaurant offers, yet often gets overlooked for, is the speciality wraps. Bitter Chicken Wrap, Chicken Tikka Wrap, Seekh Khebab Wrap, and Vegetable Wrap: these are some of the best wraps you can get your hands on in the entirety of Mississauga, and make for an incredible meal or snack!

Now it’s time to get to the main menu; the Clay Oven. Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Tikka, Beef Seekh Khabob, Afghan Chicken Tikka, Fish Tikka, and Tandoori Mixed Grill. Those are just some of the incredible full meals you can order for an average price of $16. The best option you can opt for if you want to try a variety of the meats, is the By The Lake Chicken Platter.

If you’re a vegan or a vegetarian however, the Sahdra family has you covered as well! You can choose from a plethora of options, including Dal Masoor, Chana Masala, Aloo Gobi Masala, Navratan Korma, Mushroom Mattar Paneer, Dal Maharaja, and Baingan Patiala. Of course, I’m just one person’s opinion. So it’s time to hear what other people think! Below is a few reviews of Indian Cuisine By The Lake from TripAdvisor:

The place is good and the outside patio is a good place to have a dinner in the summer evening. They have good variety of Indian vegetarian food. Though we didn’t much like the sizzlers, which were both less in quantity and more in cost, but their nan and snacks are very good. The staff is very humble and good.

Ordered the Chicken by the lake platter and the Baingan Patiala (eggplant dish). Both were delicious. Chicken wasnt overcooked so it wasnt dry but cooked perfectly and the portion size of the amount of chicken was reasonable.

The garlic and mint naan is my favourite snd the roti wasn’t dry either which was perfect to est the Baingan Patiala with.

Port Credit's finest Indian restaurant

So it’s obvious I’m not the only one in love with Indian Cuisine By The Lake. Although that much was obvious considering how long the business has been operating!

It may not actually be by the lake as the name suggests, but Port Credit’s finest Indian restaurant more than makes up for the lack of view with it’s great food and great hospitality. Indian Cuisine By The Lake is one of Mississauga’s finest Asian dining experiences and well worth a visit next time you’re in the area!
