With summer finally upon us, the days are longer and you may be looking to enjoy a day off. There are plenty of ways to spend a staycation day in the city.
Enjoy the beauty of summer in one of over 500 Mississauga parks. Situated throughout the city, parks offer a serene escape from the everyday grind. Bring a book or pack a picnic. Indulge your inner photographer and capture the green landscape around you. Let your dog roam free in one of eight leash-free zones. Watch your kids enjoy the playgrounds or get active on the soccer fields, tennis courts and more. What better way to spend a day off that outdoors?
Mississauga is home to a variety of scenic trails, ready to help you explore beautiful green spaces. Cycle or get your daily step count in along our network of over 300 km of trails. The Waterfront Trail is the City’s longest at 21.8 km and extends beyond Mississauga from Niagara to the Quebec border.
3) Drop-in Recreation Classes
A day off can be the perfect opportunity to try a drop-in recreation program at a local community centre or pool. From swimming to spinning, boot camp to skating, there is sure to be a class that’s right for you.
4) Celebration Square
Mississauga Celebration Square is bustling with activities all year round. Experience Endless Summer Fun all summer long. Drop by on a Wednesday for the popular Farmers Market and Fresh Air Fitness. Bring a blanket on Thursdays to enjoy Movie Nights under the stars. Drop by festivals happening every weekend of the summer. While you’re here, beat the heat by splashing in the fountain and enjoy delicious treats from the Square’s resident porch vendors. Check out other events like Make Believe Theatre and Amphitheatre Unplugged throughout the month of August. And if you have July 1 off, be sure to join the biggest Canada Day celebration in the City, starting at 2 p.m. and ending with fireworks at 10 p.m., presented by Tim Hortons.
If your day off turns out to be a rainy one, there is lots of fun to be had indoors at The Library. While books and reading are staples at the City’s 18 locations, The Library offers a variety of other services, programs and events. Check out the Maker Mississauga to build your STEAM skills – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. Or join the TD Summer Reading Club, Canada’s biggest, bilingual summer reading program for kids of all ages, interests and abilities. The club celebrates Canadian authors, illustrators and stories and is designed to inspire kids to explore the fun of reading their way – the key to building a lifelong love of reading. July and August are packed with activities for everyone!
