Just when you thought the big festivals of the year were already done for the year, we’re pulling you back in for more! And this one is a celebration the likes of which we haven’t seen in a while in Mississauga!
The upcoming Festival of Lights, also known as Diwali RazzMatazz, will take place in the city centre this coming week, and it promises to be an event to remember. “Diwali is a major Hindu festival celebrated worldwide by Sikhs, Punjabis, Gujaratis, Jains, Buddhists, Tamils, Nepalis, Sri Lankans and East Indians. Diwali is celebrated to mark the homecoming of Lord Rama after his jubilant victory over demons. The tradition of lighting earthen lamps followed on this day serves as a promise to turn darkness into light and spread peace and prosperity.”
On October 12th at Celebration Square, you can attend Diwali RazzMatazz for the low, low price of free! Here is the official event description from the organisers:
Diwali RazzMatazz is a joyous festive celebration for the entire family. Stage programming includes Bollywood headliner performances, musical concerts, dance performances, Diwali bazaar, kids’ rides, Diwali lucky draws and other sponsored gifts and prizes. Food vendors provide the authentic flavours of Diwali festivities.
The festival is organized by Indo Canada Arts Council, a federally registered not-for-profit organization dedicated in promoting and recognizing the various cultural and art forms between India and Canada.
As with all festivals at Celebration Square, you can expect a plethora of incredible food, performances, and things to buy. There will be over 20 live performances both dance, musical, and otherwise, as well as food trucks and lots of vendors.
This marks the fourth year of the festival in Mississauga and it promises to be the best yet. Mayor Bonnie Crombie usually attends, making her one of the 50,000 that have graced Diwali. Come to Celebration Square on Friday October 12th and embrace RazzMatazz!
