Canada Day has come and gone once more, hard to believe it’s been another year eh? Well don’t fret, the party doesn’t have to end quite yet, it is still summer after all.
Celebration Square is overflowing with events all summer long, and the next big happening is this weekend. July 7th and 8th, Celebration Square will throw the annual Philippine Festival, free to everyone!
The festival kicks-off on Saturday July 7th from 11 AM to 11 PM, and then continues on Sunday the 8th from 11 AM to 7 PM. The Philippine Festival is an annual tradition at Celebration Square, which draws the city’s entire Filipino community together for one big bash. If you’re not Filipino however, don’t worry, the event is for everyone, regardless of nationality, race or creed!
This year’s event will feature the regular array of musical performances, family entertainment, cultural organisations, and, for the first time, a Bumper to Bumper Car Show, featuring approximately 70 car enthusiasts and their elaborate cars. The festival will also have a Kids Village, equipped with arts and crafts, bouncy castles, train rides, and more, so you don’t have to worry about the kids while you party with the adults!
The headline act for this year’s festival is Darren Espanto, the 17-year old Canadian/Filipino star. Espanto was a child prodigy, as he appeared on talent show The Voice Kids, and finished second! Since then, Espanto has had two platinum albums and opened for Selena Gomez. Suffice to say, we’re in for a treat when he performs on Saturday July 7th.
The Philippine Festival returns to Mississauga on July 7th and runs until 7 PM on July 8th. The two-day festival is free for everyone and you should join the fun!
