Carassauga is returning to Mississauga in May 2019. The event, which began back in 1986, brings the many ethno-cultural groups of Mississauga together for a huge celebration of culture and diversity.
This year’s event takes place on May 25 and 26, however it will also have the first ever opening night ceremony on the 24th. The ceremony will begin at 7:30 at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre, and will feature Platinum Blonde as the musical act! Here’s a little more information about the event from the organisers:
Carassauga is an incorporated non-profit volunteer community organization, which will be celebrating its 34th Anniversary in 2019. The Festival has become an important annual event in Mississauga’s calendar, and its popularity has steadily increased in recent years. It is the largest multicultural Festival in Canada in terms of visits & ethnic diversity representation.
This year’s event will offer plenty of vendors with food and artisanal items for sale, as well as a variety of musical acts across 21 stages. New to Carassauga this year is the Tour de Mississauga, an opportunity for everyone to hop on a bike and follow some guided routes to find more pavilions and vendors. It’s a fantastic opportunity to experience dozens of other cultures and eat great foods, talk to nice people, and buy some fascinating artefacts.
The official Carassauga website has provided some incredible facts from last year’s event, which help to highlight the scale and might of the show:
- 32 countries represented at cultural Pavilion Locations, throughout Mississauga
- 4,921 Performers and 190 Artisans
- 944 Performances
- 400,704 Recorded Visits
- 6,395 Volunteers involved with the Festival
- 294,017 Volunteer Hours Donated
- 22 Hours of Operation
The size of Carassauga is quite breathtaking and it’s getting even bigger in 2019 with more vendors, more events, and more hours of operation than ever before. Tickets for Carassauga 2019 can be purchased here. Carassauga is one of Mississauga’s biggest and best events and we hope to see you there!
