The fine folks at Benares Historic House are at it again, providing Mississauga residents with incredible events year-round. And you can’t accuse the organisers of resting on their laurels, they’re constantly presenting new and exciting shows that are as fun as they are educational.
On Saturday July 21st, Benares Historic House will be the scene of a Steampunk Invasion! The entire Benares House will be transformed into a world of mad science and weird technology. This is a perfect event for sci-fi fans, as well as families looking for something a little different.
What the heck is steampunk? I’m glad you asked! Steampunk is a subgenre of science fiction that weaves technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery, with a dab of magic for good measure. Think the 1999 Will Smith movie Wild Wild West, or 2004’s Hellboy. It’s a super unique aesthetic and one that has a rich history in fiction.
The event as Benares House will feature a Steampunk market, including unique wares to buy, machine-racing, as well as themed tasty food and drink. There will also be a live performance of “Mad Science with a Steampunk twist”.
This isn’t the first time Benares has hosted a Steampunk event and last time was a rousing success as around 200 people attended! Many of the attendees were in costume as well, so feel free to wear your best corset or waistcoat, goggles or knee-high boots. It’s a really fun look and you should get creative!
The Steampunk Invasion of Benares Historic House takes place on Saturday July 21, from 12:00 to 5:00 PM. Tickets can be purchased by contacting Museums@mississauga.ca or calling 905-615-4860.
