If you grew up in the 80s —or are a parent of young kids, or just love toys and collectibles—you should be heading down to the Hilton hotel in Mississauga’s neighbourhood of Meadowvale on April 15. That’s the date and place for the 80s Toys Expo, presented by Ontario Collectors Con.
The show features a huge selection of vintage 80s toys and all the latest releases from today such as Transformers (vintage and Japanese imports), Star Wars (new and vintage), GIJoe (vintage and modern), Masters of the Universe (vintage and modern), Super Heroes (Marvel Legends, DC Universe), Wrestling, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and tons of other action figures, Lego, comics, video games and collectibles.
Canadian voice actor Doug Stone—the voice behind Matt Trakker and other characters in the iconic 80s animated series M.A.S.K., as well many other animated action heroes—will be on hand to sign autographs and take pictures.
“We’re thrilled to showcase Doug Stone throughout the show,” stated expo general manager Colin Douglas. “There will be something for fans of all ages while we celebrate a hometown hero.”
Toys from the 80s are super collectible today. There is something unique about the toys of that decade. Some of the most popular toys from the 80s are worth much more today than they were when they first hit the toy stores. For instance, The Real Ghostbusters: Fright Feature Action Figure was listed on eBay for almost $1,000, and an original Nintendo mint in the box was listed for almost $2,000.
All Ontario Collectors Con events will take place at the Hilton Mississauga/Meadowvale Hotel, on 6750 Mississauga Road. The next event to look forward to is The Canadian Star Wars Collectors Expo, which returns to this Mississauga venue on June 10.
Presenting these popular expos at the Hilton Mississauga/Meadowvale hotel makes it convenient for all those who attend. Parking is free, and if attendees lose track of time wandering (in wonder!) throughout this toy extravaganza, they can always book a room at the hotel to stay overnight.
