Christmas Day in Mississauga is almost upon and, while it’s a wonderful time of year, it’s not for everyone.

Lots of folks here in Mississauga are not Christian or from Christian backgrounds, and therefore do not celebrate the season. And then there’s plenty of folk who simply don’t like the holiday or must spend it alone. Whatever the reason, we’re here to report that you don’t have to spend it couped inside and miserable!

There are a plethora of great activities you can get up to on Christmas Day, that will make the time fly by and before you know it, it will be over for another 365 days! So here are five things you can do on Christmas to kill the time!

Go For A Festive Meal

Cooking food on Christmas Day can be a real pain, especially if you don’t know how to cook!

So, we recommend you head out on Christmas Day to one of Mississauga’s great restaurants for some holiday grub. We recently ran down a list of five different eateries that are offering excellent meals on Christmas Day, so why not head to one of them and treat yourself?!

Go See A Movie

If you feel like avoiding the holiday season altogether, you can channel your inner Grinch by going to see The Grinch!

The Grinch is one of many movies currently on show at Cineplex’s throughout Mississauga. If you really are a Grinch, you probably won’t want to watch anything Christmas related, so there’s also Holmes and Watson, Aquaman, Bumblebee, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, among others. There’s no shortage of great movies in the cinema right now, so why not see one or two!

Go To Celebration Square

Celebration Square is the premiere destination for ice skaters this holiday season.

The Square is open all December long, including Christmas Day. There will no doubt be plenty of other people there, so you won’t have to skate along on Christmas Day.

Go For A Walk

One of the unique things about Christmas Day, is that a majority of the populace are inside the entire day. That means the streets are often devoid of people, and it makes for a pleasant and peaceful walk.

You can go anywhere in the city for a nice stroll, whether it’s one of Port Credit’s parks or lakefront, Streetsville’s picturesque village, Kariya Park in the city centre, or up around Riverwood. There’s plenty of places to go for a nice quiet walk on Christmas Day and, for once, you won’t be waist-deep in snow!

All Of The Above

Christmas Day is long. For those who are spending it alone, or those who don’t celebrate it, it feels like it’s never going to end. With that in mind, why not make a day of it?

You could easily go for an early morning walk, then grab dinner at one of the aforementioned restaurants, before heading to the ice rink, and finishing the day off with a movie. That way you will have an action-packed day and it will be over before you know it! If all else fails, you can stay inside, in your pajama’s, with some ice cream, and binge-watch Netflix all day long! Regardless of how you spend it, Feliz Navidad!
